A. Introduction to Count and Noncount Nouns

C. Singular and Plural Forms: Subject/Verb Agreement

Common Collective Nouns → generally singular The staff was in agreement about the changes. The public is upset about the issue.

D. Indefinite Articles : a and an = One/ unspecified person or thing.

A Before a singular count noun that begins with a consonant sound. I bought a house.

An Before a singular count noun that begins with a vowel sound. I wasted an egg. ※ A or An is never used with a noun that functions as a noncount noun.

E. Unspecified or Unidentified Count and Noncount Nouns = Unspecified or unidentified people, things, and so on

Count Nouns Singular Count Noun → It is preceded by a or an. A house can be expensive. (A house = one house or any house in general)

Count Nouns Plural Count Noun → It is used without articles. Houses are getting more expensive. (Houses = all houses in general)

→singular verbs / without articles. Noncount Nouns Love, Time, Health, Honesty, Respect… →singular verbs / without articles.

Exercise 8 p.190 A / An / X economists study the interrelationship between the two groups. For example, A / An / X weather in California can affect the price of A / An / X fruit in Boston.
