8/6/ The Future of Manufacturing: Next Generation Manufacturing Strategy

In preparation for the future, let’s identify current perceived roadblocks Most Common Challenges we encounter today: 1.Management and Professionals Complacency 2.Internal unnecessary road blocks and waste 3.Untapped human power within the organization 4.Management greed for short term results impacting long term company potentials (=> Qtr. end, bonuses) 5.Superficial implementation of magical solutions 6.Constraining Legislation, non-competitive tax structures 7.Energy and Distribution costs 8.Lack of Educational System initiatives towards R&D, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Empowerment 9.Ourselves, lack of eagerness to excel. 8/6/

Defining our point of reference In the path to “technological competency” and “operational excellence” we might all be at completely different points. So, your future steps might be totally different from someone else. In fact, your future steps might be what someone else already did. Or someone else might be planning to implement what you already implemented. 8/6/

Technological Competencies and Operational Excellence Path MRP and bar codes are available since the 70’s – MRP II in the 80’s (closed loop) – S&OP, MES, Real time data in the 90’s – Are we still seeking MRP, data acquisition and management solutions? SPC was born in the 50’s – Dr. Deming – Calibrations, qualifications, validations – Motorola and 6 Sigma, DOEs – Are we still seeking Process Control and SPC solutions? 8/6/

Cont. Technological Competencies and Operational Excellence Path: Lean concepts were born in the 40’s – Toyota – Takt Time, TPM, Quick Change Over, Poka Yoke,… – One piece flow, kanban, supermarkets, “milk runs”, vertical integration, … – Are we still questioning, seeking …. ? Standardization, simplification and automation were born in the 20’s – Ford, S-M-L – Manufacturing Execution – Are we still questioning, seeking..? 8/6/

Mapping your path into the “Future”: I : Become “addicts of constant pursuit of excellence” II : Willingness to pay the price to achieve your desired results III : Become a “Learning, Evolving Organization” IV : Constant pursuit of Operational Excellence V : Demand driven value network principles VI : Communication and Data Management Excellence VII : Embedded innovation in Supply Chain VIII : Simplification, global flexibility, integration, transformation IX : Financial Performance X : Choose “Best in Class” Examples to study and learn from 8/6/

so, the Future…. has nothing to do with dates, but, rather with Your Desire to Excel 8/6/
