Omaha they encountered the Otoe tribe and was 600 miles into the expedition. In Yankton they encountered the Sioux tribe in the cliffs of south Dakota. In Fort Osage located in Missouri was Louis and Clarks was there camp in the unexplored west.

During Louis and Clarks adventure the encountered the first tribe of native Americans of the unexplored west. Fort Osage was there first military camp of the expedition.

The fort became a government center for trading with western cultural and native Americans. During the expedition when they first came to Osage Louis became governor and Clark became the general of the state militia.

The fort was built by the regiment men. It was built after the Louis and Clarks expedition was done in I8O6. The fort was 70 feet above the water level and fort still stands today.

The Osage Indians were settled in Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kanas. The were big game hunters and one of the most powerful native tribes in the United States. The natives wore moccasins and leather from all the animals they hunted.

Today the Osage are on a reserve and the natives still practice traditions but most Osage speech English. Only the elders speak the Osage language today.

Today the fort is now a tourist attraction of the first fort built in the new explored west. The Osage now live on reveres and the fort is a reminder of the great expedition of Louis and Clark.
