Electric Fruits and Vegetables What fruit or vegetable makes the most electricity ?

Purpose To find out what fruit generates the most electricity naturally

Hypothesis When I connect the fruits and vegetables to the voltage meter I believe that the grapefruit will make more electricity because it is larger than the other fruits and vegetable

Materials For this experiment, you will need: A lemon A lime A grapefruit An orange A potato A voltage meter

Procedure 1.First turn the voltage meter on to X1K 2.Then, insert the wires into each fruit/vegetable 3.Afterwards, record your results 4.Repeat procedure and clean the wires after each test.

Results Fruit /Veggie PotatoLemonLimeGrapefruitOrange Trial 1 voltage 0.2 volts 0.4 volts 0.25 volts 0.1 volts0.2 volts Trial 2 voltage 0.22 volts 0.41 volts 0.26 volts 0.11 volts0.22 volts Trial 3 voltage 0.19 volts 0.45 volts 0.23 volts 0.09 volts0.21 volts

Comparison I'm comparing the electricity each fruit and vegetable produces to each other to find out which one produces the most

Variables Controlled Make sure that voltage meter was an old needle pointer one Make sure the dial is on X1K Same kind of fruits and vegetables (ex: naval orange, sweet potato ect.) Keep the wires clean of juice Have the fruits fresh

Independent Variable The fruit/vegetable Dependent Variable The voltage meter

Sample size I think I tested enough fruits/vegetables because I think using 3 fruits would be enough for a similar experiment to be valid and I used 5

Trials In my opinion, I did not do enough trials, I think that 10 trials would be a better number opposed to my 3 trials

Diagram On X1K Wires in fruit/vegetable Wires in volt meter

Conclusion My hypothesis was disapproved according to the results, a lemon produces about 0.43 volts of electricity while a grapefruit, despite its size, only generates 0.1 volts of electricity. The most challenging part was reading the voltage meter, luckily, my dad helped me. I learned that just because there is more of something, doesn’t mean it has more value I felt most successful when my hypothesis was wrong, because almost no one is perfect on the first try If I had to do this experiment again, I would use different fruits or vegetables
