Guided Notes Steps to Solving a Linear Equation: **Goal: Isolate the Variable!! Simplify each side of the equation if needed (combine like terms on the same side of the equal sign) -Remember that you may need to use the distributive property before combining like terms. -Be careful when distributing a negative sign. Use inverse order of operations to isolate the variable. -Order of operations tells us to multiply and divide first then add and subtract -Therefore the inverse of the order of operations is FIRST Add or Subtract SECOND Multiply or Divide Always Check your work!!! ***Work carefully and do all your work on the paper!
