Negative Effects of Cardiovascular disease  Eating foods that are high in saturated fats and cholesterol may cause plaque to form on artery walls.  Atherosclerosis – a disease in which there is a build up of plaque on artery walls.  When a person has atherosclerosis, the diameter of the artery becomes narrow. Blood pressure increases because blood is flowing through a narrower opening in the artery. Pressure may rupture the plaque causing a blood clot that blocks the artery or that breaks off, circulates in the bloodstream.  Embolism – the blockage of an artery by a clump of material traveling in the bloodstream.  If the blockage is in an artery in the brain, a person could have a stroke. If the blockage is in an artery in the heart, a heart attack could occur. A blockage in the lung is called a pulmonary embolism.

Cardiovascular Disease  First Step: Limit fat and cholesterol intake  Second Step: Increase Your intake of foods and beverages containing antioxidants  Third Step: Limit your intake of sodium.  Fourth Step: Include flaw, soy, canola, olive. And fish oils in your diet.  Cholestorerol – a fat-like substance made by the body and found in some foods.  Atherosclerosis- build up of plaque on artery walls. The diameter of the artery becomes narrow  Embolism- blockage of an artery by a clump of material traveling in the bloodstream  Plaque – is made up of the cholesterol, fatty substances, cellular waste product and other substances

Symptoms of CVD  Chest Pain  Sudden numbness of the face/arms  Shortness of breath  Weakness or coldness in legs/arms  Slow heartbeat  Dizziness/Fainting  Cardiovascular disease is not one condition rather it is a name used to describe conditions and diseases.  There are more than sixty types of cardiovascular diseases.  Some cardiovascular diseases developed at birth or over years.

Statistics  Estimates for the year 2006 are that 81,100,000 people in the united states have one or more types of cardiovascular disease.
