A few minutes about | leather

Leather is a living material and its texture will vary in character. The surface can be varied, in that a new pattern is imprinted on it, so-called ”embossed” or ”printed” leather. Leather is built up of fibres. This fibre structure varies with the animals. The fibre structure in leather is elastic and stretches, something to consider when trying out leather clothes. Leather is very heat resistant and only vaguely influenced by friction heat resulting from a fall.

The strength of leather cannot be judged by touch or vision. The elasticity in the fibre structure, and its thickness, is deciding for its resistance in an accident. Therefore, leather should be regularly greased to prevent the fibres from drying out. The usual way of dying leather is in a bath or detailing on the surface. Mechanical treatment for a used look is another method used. Design of the seams and choice of thread are two other parameters influencing the quality of the product. Leather garments should be cleaned and impregnated regularly to keep the quality of leather and thread.

Thank you for taking 10 minutes to read about Jofama’s products and our view on leather.
