TETRA MoU Seminar September Introduction to ETRIIntroduction to ETRI Trunked Radio System Landscape in Korea Deployment and Applications of Trunked Radio TETRA System in Korea Current Plans for TETRA in Korea Summary Agenda

TETRA MoU Seminar September ETRI’s Role for TRS and PPDR standard ETRI is a IT R&D Global Leader in Korea. ETRI is a standard development body in relation to Telecommunication such as CDMA, TRS,and PPDR System and cooperate with TTA for standardization. ETRI has been participating and leading the 105 TTA Project Group for PPDR and Digital Trunked Radio System standard for Korea GRN.

TETRA MoU Seminar September ETRI’s Role in TRS and PPDR standard TTA MIC Submit a draft proposal Confirm the standard And notification RFP frequency R&D funding Requirements PPDR Manufacturer ETRI - Draft Standard - Leading R&D Frequency allocation MIC : Ministry of Information and Communication TTA : Telecommunications Technology Association NEMA: National Emergency Management Agency System supply Request for Frequency Proposal for frequency plan Joint development for testbed Tech transfer PPDR Operator (NEMA) TRS

TETRA MoU Seminar September Introduction to ETRI Trunked Radio System Landscape in KoreaTrunked Radio System Landscape in Korea Deployment and Applications of Trunked Radio TETRA System in Korea Current Plans for TETRA in Korea Summary Agenda

TETRA MoU Seminar September Current Trunked Radio System in Korea Currently, there are various trunked radio system being used in Korea: –Analog trunked system SmartZone, SmartNet EDACS Starex SmarTrunk LTR –Digital trunked system TETRA iDEN Markets using trunked radio system: –Public Safety –Transportation –Utilities (Electricity, Water) –Oil & Gas –Commercial Communication Trend is toward migration to digital system

TETRA MoU Seminar September Frequency Allocation 800 MHz Band (806~824/ Mhz) has been allocated for Digital Trunked Radio System for both public and private system 380 MHz Band (380~390/390~400Mhz) has just recently open to allow private company to deploy trunked radio system The frequency scheme complies TETRA Standard. GRN frequency band has not yet allocated New PPDR band will be allocated according to WRC recommendations

TETRA MoU Seminar September Introduction to ETRI Trunked Radio System Landscape in Korea Deployment and Applications of Trunked RadioDeployment and Applications of Trunked Radio TETRA System in Korea Current Plans for TETRA in Korea Summary Agenda

TETRA MoU Seminar September Deployment of TRS in Korea History of deployment of trunked radio system in Korea: –First, analog system for Port Tel, POSCO, KEPCO, TBS, Seoul Taxi, Air Force, Doosan Industry, SK, SFD, Korea Racing, Daewoo Ship, –Then, digital system for KT PowerTel, KTX, Incheon Airport, –KNP migrated analog EDACS system to Tetra system. Regulation / policy for TRS –Digital trunked system is encouraged for spectral efficiency. –MIC drives 800Mhz band for public/private trunked system – and 380Mhz band for private trunked system.

TETRA MoU Seminar September Applications of Trunked Radio System TRS applications can be divided into two: –Private / Professional Mobile Radio Users Public Safety organizations Transportation agency Utilities Company Oil & Gas Company –Public / Commercial Users Small business group for Communication Construction Enterprises, etc Both major markets will need a separate network due to different characteristics and requirement from end-users. For example: –Coverage requirement –System performance –Grade of Service –System Security

TETRA MoU Seminar September TETRA system in Korea TETRA has been widely accepted as digital trunked radio system solution in Korea Korea National Police –Select TETRA system as new communication system. –Has been used TETRA since Just completed its expansion to form TETRA nationwide network. –Has been proven its performance during FIFA World Cup The network is designed to support mission-critical users like KNP Busan Urban Transit Authority –TETRA System has been selected and the equipment has been arrived at Busan for installation.

TETRA MoU Seminar September Our Principle in Adopting Digital TRS in Korea Full digital system –Integrated voice and data –Multimedia : image, video Spectrum Efficiency Security –Authentication –Encryption over the air –Adaptation of localized encryption via end to end user Open standard at international level –Air Interface, protocol, ISI System Stability, Reliability and Survivability –Never dying at any emergency situation

TETRA MoU Seminar September Introduction to ETRI Trunked Radio System Landscape in Korea Deployment and Application of Trunked Radio TETRA System in Korea Current Plans for TETRA in KoreaCurrent Plans for TETRA in Korea Summary Agenda

TETRA MoU Seminar September Current Plan for TETRA in Korea TETRA has been selected as the base of the nationwide Government Radio Network (GRN) in Korea. NEMA has a schedule to deploy the TETRA Trial system in 2005 year and afterward complete the GRN covering all national area in 2006~2007 GRN Standard will be completed in 2004 based upon TETRA standard in 105 TTA Project Group. ETRI is planning to develop the TETRA upgrade version (Release2) and next generation PPDR system according to international standard
