OCEAN SCIENCE! By Anne Gillis History of

The First Scuba Device In 1772, Frenchmen, Sieur Freminet invented The Rebreathing Device that recycled the exhaled air from inside of the barrel This was the first self- contained air device. Freminet died from lack of oxygen after being in his own device for twenty minutes.

Chemical Dumping It wasn’t until 1972 that the U.S banned dumping chemical weapons into the ocean. 32,000 tons of nerve and mustard agents had already been dumped into the ocean waters off the United States. 26 chemical weapons dump sites in the ocean off at least 11 states The effects on the ocean are unknown but if it leeks it will last up to 6 weeks before being broken down into something nonlethal

Free Diving Free diving has been around as far back as 4500 b.c when people had to dive to find food and seashells or whatever they needed for survival. Korean woman used to dive to the sea floor to collect pearls and sponges. In 1911 in Karpathosin the Aegean sea a flag ship dropped anchor Anchor snapped and was lost under 77 meters of ocean. Several days of unsuccessful attempts lead to the captain in search of someone who could Yorgos Haggi Statti clamed he could do it. In exchange for five Pounds Sterling and permission to fish with dynamite. Yorgos locate the anchor and pass a rope through it so that the crew could retrieve it. Thus becoming the first deep diver in history.

The first Underwater Pictures The first photos taken f the sea was of the ocean floor by Kenneth L. Hunkins, Bruce C. Heexen, and Robert J. Menxies in 1946 They took pictures of the Arctic Ocean floor They noted that their was a lack of life in every aspect.

Today because of popular demand for an ocean view and your own privet getaway people have started to create their own land. Using sand from the ocean floor as the base as well as rock. Off the shore of Dubai All this could be your for a small price of 25 to 45 million dollars.

Did you know…. We actually don't know much about oceans. 99% of all living space on Earth live in the ocean and less than 10% of that has been explored. The ARCTIC Ocean is the smallest, shallowest and coldest.
