Electroplating The process used to cover zinc with copper. Uses direct – current electricity, which causes redox reactions to occur between metal and non metal solution.

Examples Bumpers on trucks are made of steel. The steel would rust in the snow and rain but manufactures protect it by coating it with nickel and chromium. Coin would also corrode if they were not coated with nickel Bikes are also coated to keep from corroding.

Uses of electroplating Electroplating is used in many industries for function corrosion control or decorative processes. Used on steel or aluminum parts on light fixtures Steel bolts and nuts and washers are all coated with zinc. Electroplating may deposit silver, copper,or brass into electrical connectors

Relation Electroplating can cause redox reaction. Redox reactions are oxidation and reduction reactions Cations and Anions also have to deal with electroplating. We learned about oxidation and reduction this year and they both have to deal with electroplating.
