Commercial Vent

Engine Company Commercial Vent Training – Objectives Understand why an inspection hole is important. Understand the purpose of smoke indicator holes. How to utilize the 5 cut center rafter cut method. This class is a basic overview to prepare for the hands on portion of this training.

Commercial Vent Engine Company Commercial Vent Training – Will utilize 1 saw. – Minimum of two personnel but three is preferred. Officer (required) Sawyer (required) Lookout/Safety (optional but recommended)

Commercial Vent 5 Points of Inspection Hole – Determine the roof covering – Determine the roof decking – Determine the rafter direction – Determine conditions directly underneath – Establish the type of operations that will be accomplished

Commercial Vent Inspection Hole – This is a triangular cut with each side approximately 12”. – The first cut is 45 degrees to an outside wall.

Commercial Vent Inspection hole

Commercial Vent Smoke Indicator Hole – Determine smoke and heat conditions underneath the vent team – Assists in determining the location of heat hole – Only large enough to fit handle of rubbish hook into

Commercial Vent 5 Cut Center Rafter Cut (5 Cut) – Simple to use and remember. – Identifies the structural members and allows for the maximum size of opening between members for heat hole/strip cut – The louvers do not fall into the ventilation opening.

Commercial Vent A single ventilation hole is a 5 cut. When several 5 cuts are put together they are considered “with construction” or “against construction” “With Construction” “Against Construction”

Commercial Vent Against Construction

Commercial Vent With Construction

Commercial Vent Vertically ventilating a commercial roof can be a very complex task. Utilizing Truck Companies is recommended when roof operations are needed on commercial roofs. This training provides Engine Companies the knowledge and skills to vertically vent a commercial roof when no Truck resources are available or are delayed.

Commercial Vent Hands on training: – Chalk saw station – Rafter rolling, smoke indicator, and inspection hole station. – Full start to finish evolutions that bring it all together. Questions? Contact: – Jason Konieczka – Ben – Jimmy
