1. A Day in the life 2. Job Outlook 3. Specializations 4. Salary 5. Responsibilities 6. College Prep

 Most marine engineers spend time researching and designing innovative vessels  Sometimes, engineers are called in to inspect or repair damaged equipment on various ships

 Hiring rates are promising for those who are skilled, expected to rise 6% in 2015  Jobs being taken by foreign and more skilled engineers can be problematic

 Shore Protection/Land Reclamation  Planning of Harbors/Ports  Cargo Storage and Terminals  Buoy Distribution  Bathymetric and Topographic Surveying

 Typically all engineers have close to the same salaries, with few exceptions  - 10 th percentile: $19.75/$41,070  - 25 th percentile: $26.92/$55,990  - Media (50th percentile): $35.74/$74,330  - 75 th percentile: $47.02/$97,800  - 90 th percentile: $58.64/$121,960  - Average Hourly Wage: $38.10  -Average Annual Wage: $79,240 25th Percentile 75th PercentileMean U.S. $57,060 ($27.43) $94,840 ($45.60) $77,920 ($37.46) New York $46,400 ($22.31) $78,320 ($37.65) $62,940 ($30.26)

 Marine Engineers are required to have a certain skill set that includes good communication skills and technical skills, along with:  -Surveying, Investigating and Planning Ship Builds  -Environmental Impact Assessments  -Feasibility and Cost Estimates  -Construction Supervision and Contract Management  -Keeping organized records of testing and field observations

 For most engineering careers, a minimum of 2-4 years of college is required  Many marine engineers will further their education to a Masters or PhD degree by going back to school  Most important learning is from mentors and other engineers to teach you the tricks of the trade

 In conclusion, marine engineering can be a great potential career for someone who enjoys maritime vessels and has a desire to work hard  Personally, I have no intention to pursue this field, though it is interesting to learn about naval ships and new innovations in marine transportation Ending Video Ending Video
