 Romex: outlets, lights, switches  2-3 conductors and a ground wire insulated together  Hot, ground, and neutral  #12 or #14 wires  110 volts will still ruin your day Heavy duty appliances: Washer, dryer, oven, A/C 3-4 wires in a circuit 2 wires carrying 110v, ground, and neutral #8 or #10 wires 220 volts will make you crispy Horizontal distance + vertical distance = total length of wire needed

 Determine the number of devices and wiring needed to complete the lighting shown in the figure. The light fixtures are to be recessed-can fixtures. The outlet is existing and will be used to supply the power to the lighting. Use Romex #12 wires. The ceiling height is 9 feet. Questions? Dimensions? Length? Ceiling height? All commercial wiring requires conduit or raceways (except low voltage) Flexible and ridged conduit Much greater length of wire due to size, scale, and method of construction Many more boxes, outlets, switches, and threaded connectors Greater definition in circuit design due to electrical requirements and equipment Multiple electrical panels rather than one

Determine the number of electrical devices, conduit, and wiring needed to complete the lightning shown in the figure. The light fixtures are to be 120 volt, 4 foot by 2 foot fluorescent light fixtures with three bulbs. The power will be provided to the light switch on the left. Use #12 wires in a ½ inch conduit. The ceiling height is 9 feet, and the conduit will be run at a height of 12 feet. Questions? Approach?

Determine the electrical components needed to complete the electrical distribution system (excluding wire from the panelboards) for the schedmatic shown in the figure. The distance to the meter is 60 feet through a 3 ½ inch conduit that includes three 90-degree bends. The wireway is 5 feet long, and the three panels are mounted 1 foot above the wireway. The panelboard schedules are shown in the second figure on next slide.

Read the specs while looking at the electrical plan  Highlight or mark everything. NO EXCEPTIONS  This includes, but is not limited to: outlets, switches, and lights by type, circuit breaker, boxes, wiring layout, ground…  Check the Florida or international building code for missing dimensions Submit RFIs as soon as possible if necessary Get bids from various wise, professional sub-contractors
