Multimeter Notes

MultimeterWhat is it? Two types: 1.) 2.) A device that can measure “multiple” properties of a circuit. Ammeter Voltmeter

AmmeterWhat is it? How is it connected to the circuit? Schematic Diagram: Measures the flow of CURRENT through the entire circuit It must be connected in a SERIES A

VoltmeterWhat is it? How is it connected to the circuit? Schematic Diagram: OR Measures the difference in VOLTAGE across 2 wires It must be connected in PARALLEL V V

Practice Which of the pictures is correct? Explain why. Explain what is wrong with each of the other pictures. #4 because the voltmeter is set up in parallel and the ammeter is set up in series.

Practice In the electric circuit diagram above, possible locations of an ammeter and a voltmeter are indicated by circles 1, 2, 3, and 4. Where should an ammeter be located to correctly measure the total current? Where should a voltmeter be located to correctly measure the total voltage?. #1 #3 or #4
