WHAT ARE DIRECT OBJECTS? A direct object is a person or a thing in a sentence that receives the action of the verb. A direct object answers the questions: Who? What?
EXAMPLES IN ENGLISH She buys the blue shirt. Ask yourself: “Who/what was bought?” Answer: the shirt (what)
NOW IN SPANISH! Ella compra la camisa azul. Again, ask yourself: “Who/what was bought.” Answer: la camisa (what)
PURPOSE OF DIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS (DOPS) Direct Object Pronouns take the place of the object in the sentence. me te nos os lo la los las
USING THEM IN SPANISH *Direct Object Pronouns go BEFORE THE CONJUGATED VERB. *DOPs also replace the object in the sentence.
