Input and Output devices in a Computer
Presentation transcript:

 Input devices are devices used to input data or information into a computer.

 A keyboard is the most common device used to input data into a computer.

 The mouse is a pointing device that is used to control the movement of a pointer on the screen to select a task.  NB. A pointer device is an input device that allows the user to control a pointer on the screen.

 This is a lever that moves in all directions and controls the movement of a pointer on the computer screen.

 This is like an upside – down mouse. Rather than moving the whole mouse to move the pointer on the screen, the user rotates the ball with their thumb, finger or palm.

 This is a small, flat rectangular device that is sensitive to pressure and motion.

 A light pen is a input device that uses a light- sensitive detector to select objects on a display screen.

 This is a touch-sensitive display with which you interact by touching areas of the screen with your finger or light pen.

 This is a device that allow users to hand-draw images, animations and graphics with the aid of a stylus pen.

 Architects, designers and artist use graphic tablets to create drawings and sketches.

 An Optical Mark Reader system detects the position of pencil mark on a page.  OMR is sometimes use to mark multiple choice exam systems.

 A barcode reader scans the barcode on a product.  This represents a code number, which is sent to a point of sale(POS) terminal.

 A Point of Sale terminal has the same function as a cash register, but it is computerize.

 This is use to read numbers on bank cheques.  This input device works by detecting special magnetic ink on cheques.

 This device works by recognizing the shape of letters.  It can be found in a scanner.

 Biometric systems recognise a person’s physical characteristics, for example reading their fingerprints or iris(eye) scan.  They are mainly use for security purposes, for example, to allow access to banks or military premises.

 A sensor is defined as any kind of device that detects a signal in order to create a specific reaction.

 A remote control is a component of an electronic device, most commonly a television set, DVD player and home theater systems originally used for operating the device wirelessly from a short line of sight distance.

A Braille keyboard is a portable device that is used to by blind or visually impaired people to input information in a computer.
