RARE PLANTS AND ANIMALS OF AUSTRALIA

INTRODUCTION Australia has many endemic species of rare plants and animals. Some of animals are kangaroos, platypuses, dingos, tuatara lizards and koala bears Some of rare plants are Australian eucalyptus and bamboo.

KOALAS  An animal that looks like a bear.  Very endangered animal.  Its fur is very expensive and because of that it is hunted a lot  The koala eats eucalyptus and that is its only food.

DINGO  Animal that looks like a dog.  It is used for hunting in wild  Their number has increased over years.  It arrived with people from Asia

PLATYPUS  A very strange animal.  It’s a type of hybrid between a mammal and a duck.  It spends his day in water.  Lives only in Australia and New Zealand.

KANGAROO  Marsupial.  It carries its baby in a pouch.  its moving is jumping on its long legs.  We can say it uses his tail as the fifth leg.

TUATARA  Lizard with third eye.  Their skin is very hard.  They have spikes on their back.  Live just in Australia.

EUCALYPTUS  Eucalyptus have a poision in its leaves that is useful against bugs.  Some animals eat eucalyptus for example koala

BAMBOO  Type of very tough plant.  Used for building houses and other structures.  Located in Asia and Australia
