Syphilis Done by: Harpreet, Manjot, Syed & Sukhman

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease which can be transmitted from mother to fetus during pregnancy or transmitted during birth. Syphilis during pregnancy can cause miscarriages, premature babies, or death. If the baby has lived, the baby goes through late-stage syphilis which includes damage to their bones, teeth, eyes, ears, and brain. What is Syphilis?

Syphilis is a bacterial disease that is highly curable is the right medication is used, which is usually penicillin. Penicillin is used to treat common diseases, one of which is Syphilis. Is it a bacteria or virus?

The symptoms of Syphilis are divided into 4 stages, the primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary. During the primary stage a skin lesion called chancre, which is a single, firm and painless non-itchy ulceration. The secondary stage occurs 4 to 10 weeks after the infection, it is a reddish-pink non-itchy rash that is usually on the palms and soles of your hands. The third stage, the latent occurs early (which is less than 1 year) or later (which is more than 1 year) it is reddish papules and nodules over much of the body due to secondary syphilis stage. The last stage, the tertiary occurs 3 to 15 years after the latent stage, The symptoms are soft tumor like balls of inflammation that can vary in size, it usually affects the skin, bone, and liver but can occur anywhere, it is called gummas. Symptoms of Syphilis

The dangers of acquiring Syphilis is headaches or rashes, you can only see them after a few weeks, before that they looks almost invisible like. Syphilis has the least and most general symptoms, because of the lack of symptoms it can often infect other parts of the body. Most of the rashes are around the mouth area. It also includes sore mouth, nose, throat. Some more dangers are sore muscles, always feeling tired and losing a lot of weight. After that it is very dangerous because you can cause damage to your organs, blood vessels, bones, eyes, and joints. The dangers of acquiring this Syphilis

In 1999, 12 million people around the world had Syphilis, and as of 2010, 45,834 people in America had Syphilis. The number of people in 2010 who had Syphilis worldwide has not been said. How many people have Syphilis?
