Windmills have been used for hundreds of years. They have been used for many different uses such as pumping water. In modern days we use similar machines called wind turbines to generate energy.

The turbines are mounted at 100feet (30meters) to catch the fast moving air. As the wind blows, the blades move creating the energy.

Using wind is great because it is not “man made”. Wind has been around since the creation of the Earth. So why not use what we are given? Using wind is just like using the sun or water. Wind leaves no pollution behind, so our skies stay beautiful.

The amount of wind energy used in America is around 10%. Scientists want to increase this amount because wind energy is a very clean. Clean energy is energy that has very little, or no, pollution. This graph shows how much wind energy has been used in America until 2010.

Wind turbines provide America with very clean energy. If we have dirty energy, such as burning coal or natural gases, then America will have a high pollution levels. Now America has a generally high amount of pollution. Using wind energy will keep the pollution down.

Wind energy will greatly reduce pollution and other harmful material levels that are bad for the environment. Wind energy is not the only clean energy source. For example, there is energy made from hydropower (water energy) and solar energy. If everyone chooses the clean energy option, then our world will move towards a utopian society.
