Volunteer Orientation Session

 Overview  Who was Linda Creed?  What does the organization do?  Volunteering  Opportunities  Objectives  Breast Health 101

 Who was Linda Creed?  Linda Creed was a local songwriter famous for her songs with the Philly sound.

 Linda wrote “You Make Me Feel Brand New”, “Betcha By Golly Wow”, “The Greatest Love of All”, Rubberband Man, and many more songs in her short career.  Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 26. She fought the disease for just over ten years and died at age 37.  The organization was founded in 1987 by friends and family of Linda Creed.

We accomplish this by:  Educating women and their families with regard to detection, treatment and survival strategies;  Offering access to detection and treatment resources;  Providing information regarding breast health and breast cancer;  Providing critical financial assistance to women receiving breast cancer treatment;  Driving an effective advocacy agenda The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Organization is committed to promoting breast health, fostering the healing process and establishing a public agenda for prevention and cure.

 We were the first free-standing breast cancer non-profit organization in Pennsylvania  We were the first to recognize the need for breast health education in the local community.  We were the first organization to offer free screening mammograms to uninsured or under-insured women in the Delaware Valley.

 Our Services: Outreach Education We use our education program to meet with women in the community to help them understand  What is breast cancer?  Who is at risk for breast cancer?  How do I know if I have breast cancer?  What do I do if I don’t have insurance? Linda Creed provides outreach and breast health education to over 4,000 women annually. We attend community health fairs, provide education in the workplace, schools and other community events.

 Our Services: Screenings and Diagnostics  Free Screenings For women with inadequate or no health insurance. Screenings are scheduled at up to thirteen area hospitals. The screenings provide the three parts to good breast health care: Mammogram, clinical breastexam and instruction on breast self- examination.  Diagnostic Services The program provides necessary diagnostic follow- up for women screened in our mammography program and initial diagnostic services for younger women (<35), or women experiencing symptoms, as recommended by their health care professional.

 Our Partner Hospitals:  Chester County Hospital  Chestnut Hill Hospital  Aria Health Frankford Campus Langhorne Campus Torresdale Campus  Jennersville Community Hospital  Lower Bucks Hospital  Methodist Hospital  Paoli Hospital  Riddle Memorial Hospital  Temple University Hospital
