Geothermal Energy

What is it and where does it come from ? 1. The word geothermal was created by two Greek words, geo ( -which means earth ) and therme ( which means heat ). 2. It is basically heat energy from the ground. 3. To get steam from the ground and turn it to energy it has to go through pipes.

How does it Work ?

What are the Positive effects ? 1.It is completely clean, no waste at all. 2.After the power plant is built, the energy is almost free. 3.It doesn’t create so much pollution. 4.You can only see a little bit the impact.

What are the negative effects? 1. It can run out of steam: like hot rocks can lose their heat. 2.It’s very expensive to build geothermal power stations. 3.It’s hard to find a place where hot rocks or lakes are under- ground. 4.Sometimes some gasses and minerals may come up.

How did we discover it? It is known that geothermal energy was discovered more than years ago. It was discovered in North America by American Paleo Indians. They actually used it for cleaning and bathing. The first time it was actually used for energy was in the late 18 th century near Pisa, Italy.

Which countries use it the most? 1.United States- 16,603 2.Philippines- 10,311 3.Indonesia- 7,047 4.Italy- 5,520 5.Iceland- 4,597 6.New Zealand- 4,055 7.Japan- 3,064 8.Kenya- 1, El Salvador- 1, Germany-1,000

How many houses does one station power? One Geothermal power station can create 3979 MG.

How do we for find good places geothermal energy? 1.We can find it by using special machines that can locate where it is hot 2.We also can use satellites 3.We can dig a hole really deep hole under the ground and measure the temperature. If it is hot in that place then it is a good place
