 Power is coupled in between counter propagating waves  The response is determined based on the grating period

- linearly chirped fiber bragg grating Reflection Reflection Group Delay Wavelength (µm) Reflectivity Group delay

 Use the linear group delay to achieve optical tunable delay that can be used for demultiplexing e.g. Combine two signals in nonlinear waveguide allowing FWM to occur  10GHz and continuous wave signal-> wavelength dependent delayed signal  10GHz delayed signal and 40Gb/s data->demultiplexed 10Gb/s channels

 Ridge or slab structure?  Multi/Single mode?  Bragg period?  Length?  Nonuniform grating Picture taken from: A. D. Simard, Y. Painchaud, and S. LaRochelle, "Characterization of Integrated Bragg Grating Profiles," Bragg Gratings, Photosensitivity and Poling, Colorado Springs, 2012.
