WHAT IS FIRST AID?  It is the emergency care and treatment of an injured or ill person before complete medical and surgical treatment can be secured.

What to do when heart attack strikes???  - When a heart attack strikes, the key thing to remember is that "Time equals muscle". The longer the delay in seeking medical care, the more heart muscle will be damaged.

WHAT SHOULD I DO???  The first step to take when chest pain occurs is to call 999 and activate the EMS (Emergency Medical Service). First responders, EMTs ( Emergency Medical Technician) and paramedics can begin treating a heart attack enroute to the hospital.

 Step two is to take an aspirin. Aspirin makes platelets less sticky and can minimize blood clot formation and prevent further blockage of the artery.  Step three is to rest. When heart function is limited because it doesn't have an adequate blood supply itself, asking it to do more work may cause more damage and risk further complications. Steps 2 & 3

WHAT DOES CPR STANDS FOR?  CPR stands for (Cardio pulmonary resuscitation). Which is the technique used to an emergency help of someone developing cardiac arrest. Never practice CPR on another person, because bodily damage can occur.

WHAT DOES HAPPEN? A) Cardiac Arrest.  When a person develops cardiac arrest, the heart stops beating. When you discover a person whom you believe is experiencing a medical emergency, the first thing to do gently shake the victim and shout, "Are you OK?"  If the person does not respond to your voice or touch, they are unresponsive. Call 999 immediately.

AED……  If an AED (Automated External Defibrillator ) is available, bring it back to the person's side. The moment an AED becomes available, IMMEDIATELY press the "on" button. The AED will begin to speak to you. Follow its directions to use the AED correctly.

B) Rescue Breathing.  You now need to check to see if the person is breathing normally.  You do this by first opening the person's airway.  Next, place your ear next to the victim's mouth and nose and look, listen, and if you do not see, hear, or feel any signs of normal breathing, you must breathe for the victim.  Place your mouth around the victim's mouth and pinch the victim's nose shut. Give 2 slow breaths, making sure that the person's chest rises with each breath.

C) Chest Compressions.  After giving 2 breaths immediately begin chest compressions.  Press down on the chest with enough force to move the breastbone down about 2 inches. Compress the chest 30 times, (slightly faster than once every second).

Step 2  Continue the cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths until an AED becomes available or until EMS (Emergency Medical Service) providers arrive. This technique of performing CPR may be used on anyone older than eight years of age.

WHEN I SHOULD CALL 999?  Whenever you see or experience chest pain, fainting, confusion, uncontrollable bleeding or shortness of breath. The medics can get to work on arrival.
