Given a common word, students will be able to correctly choose a rhyming word from a list with 100% accuracy. Given a word, students will be able to listen to word choices and choose the rhyming word with 100% accuracy. What is a RHYME?  A rhyme is when two words have the same ending sounds. Like: ball call fall mall

Think About This: Do all rhymes end in the same letters?

No! Not all rhymes have to end with the same letters. For example: gray weigh

Let’s look at some rhymes STOP You must not hop on Pop. -Hop on Pop by Dr. Suess

STOP HOP POP All these words end in the same letters and have the same ending sound Rhymes can be found within the same sentence like with “hop” and “Pop”

Let’s try another! Sometimes I feel quite CERTAIN there’s a JERTAIN in the CURTAIN - There’s a Wocket in my Pocket! by Dr. Seuss

CERTAIN JERTAIN CURTAIN Wait a minute! Jertain is not a real word! Dr. Seuss uses what he knows about rhyming and sometimes makes up his own words. Even though it is not real, these words all have the same ending sounds so they do in fact rhyme.
