+ History The museum was founded in 1950, in the Jacobs building, with the intention of serving a variety of people through their exhibitions and collections of artwork. The MCASD provides public access to their contemporary art allowing people to be enlightened by and better understand these art pieces and ideas.

+ Their collection includes more than 4,000 pieces of art representing many genres such as paintings, sculptures, photography and video. Also from different eras, from the 60s to present time. Currently their main focus is on emerging artists and Latin American artists. They are able to fund the collection by many generous donations and various fundraisers. The Collection

+ Fun Facts - MCASD in La Jolla proves to be a very popular venue for weddings - The museum hosts special events for teenagers to compete against each other in regards to music and poetry - They also provide labs for people such as - Multimedia - Thoughts lab - Behind the scenes - On the third Thursday of every month from 5 to 7 PM, visitors receive FREE admission to the Museum, plus free themed Gallery Guide-led tours beginning at 5 and 6 PM.

+ Researching the Museum of Contemporary Art of San Diego was a great experience because I got to learn about what great programs they have for the public and how hard this museum works in order to provide this for us. I am a lot more appreciative of the art community and of museums in general because they allow us to express ourselves creatively in which other cases we might not be able to. As a community we should all take care of our museums and public resources. In conclusion, we should be grateful that our community provides us with such things and allow us to explore and learn about art.
