Pollution and Water Stewardship

Pollution types- point source Point source pollution = source of pollution is known and identifiable. Real life examples= toxic effluents from a factory, agricultural run-off. Effluents= chemicals or fluid that flows out

Pollution types- nonpoint source Nonpoint source pollution = source of pollution is too widespread to identify or blame Real life examples= urban run-off from roads and parking lots, neighborhood run-off from storm drains, sewage leaks such as pig waste or pesticides, and overfishing from fisheries.

Ways to correct- nature Water is recycled through the water cycle. Water is filtered through percolation. This method is mostly effective but time consuming.

Ways to correct- Legislation There are many laws that impact water quality on federal, state and municipal books. Two most important- Clean Water Act (1972) and Safe Drinking Act (1974)
