First Presbyterian Church of Fort Howard was officially organized on the date shown. This first building completed on July 22 at a cost of $2,500. It was located on Chestnut Street between Main and Hubbard. The church was dedicated on Christmas Eve 1876 by the first pastor, Rev. David Street.

Sixteen years later, a second building was erected on Howard and Ashland, our present site. This building was a brick structure and was fully equipped, including electric lights! The construction cost was $7,000 which was donated by David McCartney, a local banker.

Thirty-two years later the decision was made to raze the second building and erect a new one on the same site. The new building was dedicated on the date shown. The cost of construction was $50,000.

In 1955, the educational wing was added (one story) and the existing portion, including the sanctuary, was remodeled. The cost of construction was $75,000. The church survived a fire in In , a second story was added to the educational wing.

David McCartney, a local banker, was instrumental in starting First Presbyterian Church. The first meeting of interested people took place in his home. He donated the $7,000 cost of the second church building, the brick structure that stood on this site from 1892 to He is pictured here in suit and with his cane alongside one of his trolleys on Broadway.

Clara Austin joined First Presbyterian Church in 1880 and was a member for more than fifty years. She served as a missionary to the early settlers of Wisconsin. She published an article in the March 1912 issue of the Home Mission Monthly, titled “Winning Wisconsin.”

Ann Bannon came to Green Bay to attend business college and worked for a local law firm. From 1923 to 1944 she served as a Presbyterian missionary in Point Barrow, AL, the most northern point in Alaska. The Neville Museum now houses Ann’s collection of carvings, letters, and photographs (including the one seen here).

PC(USA)—A Confessional Church In its confessions, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) expresses the faith of the Reformed tradition. Central to this tradition is the affirmation of the majesty, holiness, and providence of God who in Christ and by the power of the Spirit creates, sustains, rules, and redeems the world in the freedom of sovereign righteousness and love. Related to this central affirmation of God’s sovereignty are other great themes of the Reformed tradition:

PC(USA)—A Confessional Church The election of the people of God for service as well as for salvation; Covenant life marked by a disciplined concern for order in the church according to the Word of God; A faithful stewardship that shuns ostentation and seeks proper use of the gifts of God’s creation; and The recognition of the human tendency to idolatry and tyranny, which calls the people of God to work for the transformation of society by seeking justice and living in obedience to the Word of God.
