Charging Point

Docking Station  Made from ABS due to its professional and attractive appearance  Good durability  Manufactured using injection moulding due to low labour costs and colour flexibility  Buttons  Made from a mixture of silicone and natural rubber.  Durable enough to be pressed frequently and withstand any friction encountered  Pleasing to the eye and comfortable to press and feel

Bottom Panel Arduino Board Piezo Speaker Screen Charging Plate Buttons Push Button Set Potentiometer Induction Coil Set Docking Station Body

Technology Development The product was originally going to use a colour sensor however after a meeting with a technical specialist it was decided to switch to using shape recognition  More Accurate with the Arduino  Safer for the User

Process – Technology Integration Process - Technology Integration When it comes to technology integration the “Street Guardian” product works as follows: The Arduino system is programmed so that the CMU cam can recognise the “green man” symbol. (This is a one-off step that is only done once) The wristband/bracelet is placed in a bowl-like charger that uses contactless charger technology The user checks if the bracelet is fully charged by pressing a button on the docking station. A voice will then pronounce “fully charged” or “not fully charged” via a speaker built into the docking station Once the wristband is fully charged the user equips the wristband ready for use when required As the user approaches a traffic crossing screen, the user places the front of the wristband/bracelet towards the traffic screen. The CMU cam reads and processes the shape in front of it using a lens (also detecting colour) A signal is sent to the vibration motor once the desired shape or shapes are recognised (in this instance the “green man”), causing the vibration motor to vibrate which in turn alerts the user to cross

Design Development One device that can be clipped onto other devices  Clip on attachment for a white stick  Wristband  Clip on lapel  Headband

Technology – CMU Cam  The CMU cam provides simple vision capabilities to small embedded systems such as the Arduino  It is an intelligent sensor that is open source as well as programmable  The CMU cam can carry out many different kinds of on-board, real-time vision processing tasks such as colour detection and shape recognition  The CMU cam can learns shapes/objects that you teach it, outputs what it detects 50 times per second and communicates via one of several interfaces  CMU Cam will detect and recognise the green man

Technology – Vibration Motor  The vibration motor will provide the capability to indicate to the wearer when a status has changed  The vibration motor possesses a 2-3.6V operating range  The vibration motor will come into use when the green man has appeared

Technology - Inductive Coil Set  The induction coil set consists of a circuit board, an induction coil and wires  Including an induction coil set will allow the portable device (in this case a bracelet/wristband) to be charged wirelessly  Uses an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between two objects  The energy is directed through an inductive coupling to an electrical device, meaning that it can then use that energy to charge batteries or run the device  Rechargeable NIMH batteries will also be included within the portable bracelet

Wristband Device Slot  Device slot made from ABS due to its stylish and attractive look  High impact resistance and toughness  Will be injection moulded due to fast production and colour flexibility Wrist Strap  Made from vulcanised natural rubber  Durable  Aesthetically pleasing  Comfortable to wear
