A Job or a Career A job will feed you for a period of time A career will feed you for a life time

Why Choose a Military Career THE MATTRESS FORMULA FOR FINDING A CAREER

M-MONEY Who joins the military for $ When do you begin to earn Comparison between civilian and military Does the job make a difference What are the long term advantages Are there sacrifices that will have to be made

A is for Adventure How does the military offer adventure Is this worth making this commitment How does this compare to civilian jobs Does the Adventure ever end Is it all fun and games Keep in mid the purpose of the military

T is for Travel How does the military offer travel opportunities What if I just want to travel How much does it cost to fly military air Can I travel anywhere What about my family

T is also for Training What is the difference between civilian and military training Which is better What type of training is available Where do I go for training How much does it cost Does it make a difference in how much I get paid

R is for Recreation What type of organized sports will there be How do I take part in these sports Are there different levels of participation What if I don’t want to be on a team Individual opportunities

E is for Education Can I get a college degree How can I work and go to school How much will it cost me What happens after I get a degree Do all of the services offer the same benefits

S is for Security Do I have to worry about a pay check each month What about layoffs Who takes care of my family What if I get hurt and can’t work What about Insurance Why should I feel secure being in the military

S is also for Satisfaction There are no careers more important You get rewarded in accordance with accomplishments You understand what it takes to get promoted Feel good about what you are doing

Not for Everyone The military is not for everyone and not everyone can be a part of the military Does education matter What if I can’t pass the test Do I need a high school diploma Doesn’t a G.E.D. work just as well What if I just drop out of school and join the military

Fact or Fiction Myth– Not everyone can get into the military Fact- The military is very selective– both mentally and physically Myth- If I can’t graduate from high school I’ll join the military Fact– Without that diploma you don’t get in Myth- The military is not for females Fact- Over 40% of the military forces are now female Myth- When I take the ASVAB it really doesn’t matter how well I do as long as I pass Fact– The better the score--- the better the job

It is not as easy to become a part of the military as most people believe. There are many reasons for joining and there are just as many not to join. Consider your options very carefully Is it really what you want to do for the next four years Make an educated choice– don’t be talked into something because you think it is something it is not.
