Enhancing Your Coaching Skills Kevin & Bekah Tinter Presidential Directors

Learning to integrate autonomy- supportive techniques with your Clients. Linking Hands with Your Clients Fundamentals of being a great Health Coach

“Great Leaders are almost always great simplifiers…” -Colin Powell

What does it mean to be autonomy-supportive? Freedom to determine one’s own actions, behavior, etc. i.e. liberty, self-direction, self-reliance, self- sufficiency “Control leads to compliance; autonomy leads to engagement.” ― Daniel H. PinkDaniel H. Pink

How does this look between Health Coach & Client? Finding their “WHY” Asking their PERMISSION Showing them HOW Posturing their OWNERSHIP Setting up your ROLE (side by side) Modeling what is POSSIBLE

Why should I use simple & autonomy-supportive systems? To be efficient with time & energy To free up “brain space” by having systems & supporting those who are READY To be professional (sort don’t sell) To have the ability to help a lot more people (attractive & duplicable) BECAUSE it is WAY MORE FUN to support someone who WANTS to create health in their life

How do I know if my system is simple & autonomy-supportive? ASK YOURSELF… Could I teach this system to absolutely anyone? Is my Client support 2-5 minutes per call? Am I growing with referrals every month? Am I starting new Health Coaches every month? Are all my new Health Coaches hitting their CAB (Client Acquisition Bonus)?

The Fundamentals: Share effectively – ask LOTS of questions Profile fully – ask more questions as needed Facilitate first order simply Process completely Welcome properly Start correctly Support daily (Days 1-4) Check in weekly

Share Effectively Ask 4 main questions: – What do they want? – When did they last have it? – How would it affect them? – How would it affect those they love or who love them?

Share Effectively (cont’d) Ask about “typical” day to see which HoH are present and which are missing Share program based on what they want/need Invite them: – “I hear what you want to achieve” – “I can help you get there & this program will work for you” – “Are you ready to get started?”

Profile Fully Get full picture of current life: – What they eat – When they eat – Exercise routine – Sleep – Stress – Past weight loss programs

Profile Fully (cont’d_ Ask what they want to accomplish Find out support system & ask for referrals Get medical background Get contact information The order of these is important – show them we care!

Order Simply Recommend Clients start with Full Integration Pack (20 boxes + HoH System) Variety Pack – let them find what they like, don’t choose WITH them (takes the focus off of the food) If special circumstance, have them select 24 boxes, 4 would be free HoH Combo Pack allows Dr. A & Lori to teach the HoH to your Clients & you can be the GUIDE

Order Simply (cont’d) Recommend 4 free items that are popular & different For couples suggest 1 extra workbook & 4 different free boxes Be consistent in your procedures: Recommend Clients use address for Username and something simple they will remember such as “welcome” for password.

Process Completely Send Welcome Finish Client Profile Form: date boxes on back Add to Healthy Habits newsletter Facebook – friend request & add to private group with permission Add to contacts: cell #, address

Welcome Properly Getting Started – Your TSFL website for future orders – MYTSFL.com (Bio-Network) – Coach Prep: Take Photo, Weight & Measurements – HoH Evaluation – Keep a Journal – Preventative Measures – Support Call #s (Bio-Network) – Your Contact Information

Start Correctly Have Clients call the night before they start Do a 3-Way call with your new Health Coach to model this process Have new Clients prepare for call by having green Welcome Folder & computer handy if possible

Start Correctly (cont’d) Green Welcome Folder: – Bio-Network Wheel – HoH Lifestyle Brochure – Quick Start Guide Send them to MYTSFL.com and create an account with you on the phone

Support Daily: Days 1-4 Send daily the night before for the FIRST 4 DAYS – Can prep all 4 at once & save as draft or use Constant Contacts Day 2-4 s: – Day 2: Please unwrap HoH System materials – Day 3: Introduction & Chapter 1 – Day 4: Now you will be able to start focusing on some of the emotional reasons for eating – Stress – Boredom – Opportunity

Support Daily: Days 1-4 (cont’d) Day 4: LEARNING THE HABITS OF HEALTH Now we can move on to making this a lifestyle change!!! For all Clients: – Our course materials are: » Dr. A’s Habits of Health System » Living a Longer & Healthier Life companion guide » DVD Series Determine Clients preference for: » Weekly assignments » Working on their own

Support Daily: Days 1-4 (cont’d)_ CHECK-IN DAY… EXTRA SUPPORT AVAILABLE… – Support Call #s (Bio-Network)

Check In Weekly Check in on week 1 anniversary day – graduate to CELEBRATION CALLS! Set them up on your Coaching schedule, i.e. Mondays & Thursdays – Weigh In Days Tues, Wed, Thurs= Thursday Check In – Weigh In Days Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon= Monday Check In

Check In Weekly (cont’d) Ask about a good time to reach them & preferred method of communication Be consistent to call, text or weekly

Check In Weekly (cont’d) Ask 4 questions: – “How did your week on the program go?” – “What are we celebrating?” – “What did you learn from your HoH materials this week?” – “How is that useful to your journey?” Answer their questions Help them visualize “Won’t it be great to say good-bye to the 180’s next week?”

Self Evaluate Your Calls? Am I: –T–Taking too long? If so, why? –S–Sticking to a consistent framework? –G–GUIDING them to find the answers? –B–Being a Professional Health Coach? –R–Redirecting when necessary? –H–Helping the Client celebrate each week?

Great Health Coaches respect their Client’s time! We are EMPOWER-ERS – NOT enablers or counselors!

Why is it so important to Coach this way? Your CORNERSTONE will be set straight Your Health Coaches will be able to duplicate your system FI Clients protect our reputation & often become Coaches

Why is it so important to Coach this way? We are showing Health Coach Candidates: – We are having fun – We have the time to Coach – We can help them become competent quickly – We ONLY support Clients who are choosing of their own free will
