Pros and Cons of Organ Donation Pros  Organs donated from one individual can save up to 50 lives.  Allows individuals to have a better quality life  More cost effective when it comes to life- long Medicare Cons  Religions such as the Amish, Gypsies, and the Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in organ donation.  Many people are uneducated about organ donation

Misconceptions  People tend to worry that if their organs are donated after their death, their families will be left with an expensive bill.  “The transplant recipient’s health insurance policy, Medicare, or Medicaid usually covers the cost of a transplant. The donor’s family neither pays for, nor receives payment for, organ and tissue donation.” (Womanshealth)

Misconceptions  Many people believe that there is an age limit, whether it be too old or too young, to donate.  Although the person donating must be of good health.

Misconceptions  People may think that a donor would be unable to have an open-casket funeral.  Signing up to be a donor would affect the quality of medical care they receive.  Doctors work hard to care for a patient, whether their an organ donor or not.
