OBJECTIVES understand the concept of ‘learner centred’ approaches Identify factors influencing learners and learning Identify various learner centred approaches

LEARNER CENTRED APPROACHES Place learner at the centre of classroom processes. Parameters which take into learner centred approaches are: Learner’s developmental stages Learning strategies Prior knowledge and experiences Motivation and interests Personality Context and culture

PARAMETERSSIGNIFICANCE…INFERENCES.. FOR TEACHERS TO ORGANISE LEARNER CENTRED TLP Learner’s developmental stages  Health Check-up and feedback about the learners’ health and differential rates of development.  Teacher must strive to build up a healthy, stress free school environment  Importance to games, sports, yoga Learning strategies Multiple Intelligences- Children learn in different means, formats, means and representations naturally. Teachers must select diverse learning tasks to provide for diverse learners. Every child can learn- there are no labels like intelligent, poor, slow etc P rior knowledge and experiences  Assess the prior knowledge of children and base the learning tasks.  The tasks may be at different levels. This is the essential step to construction of knowledge Motivation and interests When TL is based on the student’s prior knowledge, learning styles, and at the right level- neither too easy nor too difficult it generates intrinsic motivation/ drive for learning Personality Based on different personality types, teachers cater to individual differences in the class Context and Culture Culture based on socio-economic belonging of the learner Language Family and the concept of schooling held by the family Community peers

SKILLS DEVELOPED BY LEARNER CENTRED TL 1.ENQUIRY 2.OBSERVATION 3.ACTION /ACTIVITY 4.INVESTIGATION 5.FORMULATION OF HYPOTHESIS 6.EVALUATING NEW IDEAS AND THEORIES
