 A mountain is something that’s part of the land, but that rises above everything else. They are very rocky, and can join up with other mountains. However they are very rocky and difficult to grow things on. Also, the higher the mountain goes up, the colder it gets – this means different kinds of plants and animals might live at the top of a mountain than at the bottom, depending on just how high it is to make up a range.

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world, it reaches to up to 8848m (29029ft.wow!) The mountain is located in the Himalayas mountain range on the border of Nepal and Tibet(China). Although Mt.Everest is the highest mountain on Earth above sea level, it's summit is only the 5 th farthest from the Earth’s centre, because the bulges at the Equator mountains such as Mt.Chimborazo in Ecuador have summits that are farther away. Altitudes above 800m(26000ft.) are often referred as to the ‘Death Zone’, a height that humans struggle to survive at for more than a few days.  :(

The height of Mt. Everest was first published in 1856,when it was known as the Peak XV. The first SUCCESSFUL ascent to the summit of Everest was achieved by Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal. They reached the peak on 29 th May. Edmund Hillary had many attempts to climb Everest. His attempts were made in 1951 and 1952.Finally he reached his goal in 1953 and the queen knighted him for his achievement and that’s when he got titled as ‘sir’ Sadly, Sir Edmund Hillary passed away aged 88 on the 11 th January. 
