Table Team March 30, 2015

General stuff Home games Arrive at least 20 minutes before the game. 4 Balls at the table. Keep the substitution box clear. All personnel should be behind the table. Problems & issues? blow the air horn twice when play is stopped You are part of the official's team. No cheering Away Game Keep stats on the table side. You are a guest. No cheering.

Video – remember this isn’t for ESPN Position – As close to midfield and as high as possible. Frame Zoom as tight as possible while keeping the entire field in view. Wide enough so you can see all of the offense or defense. Allow the play to move within the frame Don’t change zoom during play. Three positions 1.Face off 2.Settled defense 3.Settled offense Pan To follow transitions Keep the ball in the frame Stop recording between goals and F/O, timeouts and between quarters. Take a shot of the score board after each score, before each quarter and after the game.

Timer Game Timing Game timing 12 minute quarters. Stop /Start on the whistles. 2 minutes between quarters. (Officials will time) 10 minute halftime. Use the air horn at the end of the period. Mercy rule 12 point lead starts running clock on next face off. Stop for time outs. If lead drops below 12 points revert back to normal timing. OT is 4 minute ‘sudden victory’

Timer Penalty Timing Technical foul - 30 seconds Personal Foul – 1, 2, or 3 minutes “Locked in” means the player must serve the entire time. When using the timer try to prevent the buzzer from going off In the case of a visible score board time penalties from game clock. Use a scratch pad to keep track. Penalties carry over between periods Releasing players – Be loud, be clear, be directive. Use the ‘big voice’ Penalties not locked in are released upon the OTHER teams score. Give announcement at 30, 15, 10 seconds Count down from 5 seconds. “Release, release”

Timer Penalty Timing Multiple penalties Same player The more severe penalty is timed first. Different players same team or different teams Make clear which penalty is releasing by using the player’s color and number. When 2 players are serving penalties which occurred on the same play those penalties are locked in for the overlapping time regardless of who scores. A gets a :30 second penalty, B gets a 1 minutes penalty. Both are ‘locked in’ for :30 secs A and B both get a 1 minute penalty. The penalties are ‘locked in’ for one minute.

Timer Other stuff Non visible time clock Inform official when 2, 1 minute and 30 seconds are left in the period. Count down from 10 seconds. Inform Official when there is 2:20 left in the game and 2 minutes left in the game. Make sure they acknowledge you. Pay attention – keep your eye on the official. Keep the box clear. Stuff that hardly happens but you should be aware Players cannot be released during a face off. No more than 3 players from a given team can be in the box at the same time. A 4 th player must wait in the bench area before Penalties during a mercy running clock are timed from the game clock beginning when the officials put the ball into play. There may be a table official assigned to a game.

Game Book Official record for the game Record and keep track of penalties, timeouts and goals  Penalties  Official will relay: Color of offending team, number of the player, the penalty, the time and explanation.  Record  The player’s number  The violation that occurred  Time and quarter the penalty occurred  Fouling Out  Any player that receives 5 minutes of personal foul time (1, 2, or 3 minutes fouls; 30 second technical fouls do not count) is disqualified from the game.

Game Book Official record for the game  Ejection  Any player or coach that receives two non-releasable unsportsmanlike conduct penalties is ejected from the game.  Note the player’s number and full name for the officials.  Time Outs  Record the quarter and time the time out was taken  Each team gets 2 timeouts per half.  The player’s number  Other stuff  In case of a dispute the Referee has final say.  The officials sign the book after the game.  Pay attention, keep your eye on the officials.

Statistics Tool for coaches to judge player effectiveness and team improvement. Positions players for individual awards and post season honors. Consistency across the entire program. 2 + person job. Writer Caller Definitions are a hybrid of NCAA guidelines and coaches preference.

Stats - Scoring Goals A goal should be credited to the player who shot the ball, scoring a goal for his own team. A shot that strikes another offensive player and deflects into the goal should be credited as a goal to the player who last touched the ball before it entered the goal. Assists A player makes a pass contributing directly to a goal. There should be conscious effort on the part of the passer to find an open player for a shot or to help a player work free for a shot. There is no particular time frame for an assist (although the pass and shot should appear to be part of the same play) nor should there be any rigid distance factor in the play (the player scoring the goal could take one step, several steps, or even run a number of yards with the ball and still have the passer credited with an assist). An assist should not be credited on a play when the goal scorer dodges a defensive player after receiving the pass before shooting unless, in the opinion of the statistician, it was the pass itself and not the dodge that led directly to the shot.

Stats - Scoring Shot on Goals (shots at goals) A ball propelled toward the goal by an offensive player is a shot. The ball may be thrown from a stick, kicked, or otherwise physically directed to be credited as a shot. A player credited with a goal must also be credited with a shot. If there is a question on whether it’s a shot or a bad pass, watch what the official calls for the resulting possession.

Stats - Fielding Ground Balls Any ball not in possession that comes into possession of either team is a ground ball once a player establishes possession and is immediately able to perform the normal functions of possession (i.e., shoot, pass, cradle), provided the ball was contested by both teams before establishing possession. Interceptions Take Aways (caused turnovers) A Take Away is credited to a player when the player’s positive, aggressive action(s) causes a turnover by the opponent. Interception is a take away AND a ground ball. Unforced errors An action by a player which causes a change of possession without the involvement of the other team.

Stats - Face off Every faceoff has to end with players being credited and charged with a faceoff win and loss, unless the quarter ends before possession is established. Face off attempts The player who lines up to take the face off Face off won A faceoff win is determined by clear possession of the ball. Official yells “possession” Ground balls on Face offs Ground Balls can be awarded on face off whether or not the ball is contested Face off player is not credited with a ground ball unless the ball is contested away from the immediate face off area.

Stats - Goal Tending Goals Against When a shot goes into the goal for a score. The goalie in the game is credited with a goal against. Saves Any time a ball is stopped or deflected with any part of the goalie’s body or stick, which if not stopped or deflected would have resulted in the ball entering the goal. If a goalie intercepts a shot or pass that would not have gone into the goal. Credit the goalie with an INT

Stats - Penalties Penalties Technical fouls :30 Personal Fouls 1, 2, 3 minutes Penalties minutes Penalty seconds
