Chinese Medicine Festival 香港浸會大學知識轉移處 Knowledge Transfer Office Hong Kong Baptist University

 Built in 1931, Lui Seng Chun is a four-story building located at 119 Lai Chi Kok Road. “Lui Seng Chun” was the name of a Chinese bone-setting medicine shop on its ground floor, which came to be regarded as representative of the development of local Chinese Medicine (“CM”). The building was later named after this shop. HKBU was in 2009 awarded the opportunity to revitalise the Grade I historic Lui Seng Chun building by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. The revitalisation work was completed in April 2012, and since then Lui Seng Chun has been offering a full range of CM specialty services / treatments to the public. Lui Seng Chun

 This project is to launch a Chinese Medicine Festival in Lui Seng Chun and Yau Tsim Mong District nearby. During the festival, there will be Chinese Medicine seminars, guided tour, Chinese herbal tea tasting etc. offered to the people served by the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association as well as general public. Through organising the Festival, it is expected to raise the general health awareness and transfer Chinese Medicine knowledge to a wider audience. In addition, it will allow public to gain cultural insights of Lui Seng Chun as a historical building.  External Partner School of Chinese Medicine (“SCM”) of HKBU is committed to contribute to the development of CM in Hong Kong and has long been promoting CM in teaching, research, and clinical service.  A total of six seminars were planned and scheduled for this project:  Prevention and CM Treatment for Cervical Spondylitis  CM Treatment for Chronic Kidney Disease  Disease Prevention in Winter and Spring  Chinese Herbal Tea and Health  CM Treatment for Heel Pain  CM Treatment in Oncology Project Implementation

 Lui Seng Chun CM Guided Tour was another great means to transfer CM knowledge to the greater community. In the tour, participants were guided through revitalised Lui Seng Chun building to gain a deeper insight into this historic cultural landmark of Hong Kong. History of CM, information on CM health care, and CM herbs were also introduced. Complimentary Chinese herbal tea formulated by CM specialists of SCM was offered to participants. Booklets of CM and Lui Seng Chun building will be published and distributed to the general public upon completion of all the seminars and tours to promote CM to more people. The seminars were videotaped and would be shared online along with virtual tour of Lui Seng Chun building. DVDs of the seminars and virtual tour would also be produced for distribution at CM clinics of HKBU, external partner, public libraries, and elderly associations.

 Around 680 people participated in the seminars and tours. CM Seminar Series  80%  80% agreed that the seminars had helped them better understand the basics of CM and hence expanded their knowledge of CM  85%  85% of the participants thought information in the seminars and the guided tours was relevant and useful for their own health care  90%  90% of guided tour participants agreed that the first-hand experience of visiting Lui Seng Chun increased their understanding of this building as well as heritage revitalisation  90%  90% participants indicated that their knowledge of CM clinic and Chinese herbal tea had also increased.
