PHYSICS NAME :Ryan Audividia Perdana. CLASS :7-A NO.ABSEN:24 PHYSICS TASK FOR INDIVIDUAL HOMEWORK SCIENCE PHYSICS A.Find kinds of thermometer and each thermometer given it’s properties! B.Mention advantage of mercury thermometer and alcohol thermometer! C.Mention disadvantage of mercury thermometer and alcohol thermometer! D.Learn about kind of graph in Module Science. Find and make two examples of real date(from reference book or observe in around us)and than express your date by using suitable GRAPH. My Answer A.Kinds of thermometer divided happen two, that are:thermometer based function and thermometer based substance. Thermometer based function :Clinical thermometer, properties: Another thermometer that you are probably familiar with is the clinical thermometer. It also uses expansion and contraction of a liquid to measure temperature. But it must be sensitive to a very small changes in temperature, and able to measure temperatures only within a few degrees of normal body temperatures (37ºC). Wall thermometer, properties: This thermometer functioned for measure temperature in the room in way put in wall. Six’s thermometer, properties: The space in the bulb partly filled with alcohol is originally vacuum (but may contain alcohol vapor later). Six's maximum and minimum thermometer is used for measuring the day's maximum and minimum temperature. Metallic thermometer, properties: This thermometer maded from metal, because this thermometer functioned for measure temperature very hot. Thermometer based substance :Alcohol thermometer, properties: 1. Alcohol has a very low freezing point of about −112 o C and hence is suitable in thermometers to record very low temperatures. 2. Alcohol has a low boiling point of about 78 o C and therefore cannot be used to measure high temperatures. 3. Alcohol can be colored brightly (by adding a dye, generally red) and then it is clearly visible through glass. 4. Alcohol expands more than mercury. 5. Alcohol is fairly inexpensive. 6. Alcohol wets glass. 7. Alcohol is not a good conductor of heat Mercury thermometer, properties: 1. Mercury has a high boiling point of about 357 o C and therefore can be used to measure temperatures as high as 357 o C. 2. Mercury has a freezing point of about −39 o C and hence is suitable in thermometers to record low temperatures (although not very low temperatures). 3. Mercury is opaque and has a shining silvery color of its own, making it clearly visible in the capillary tube of a thermometer. 4. Mercury needs very little heat to expand and so it can easily measure the temperature of a body without causing a decrease in the body's temperature. 5. Mercury does not stick to the side of the glass capillary tube of a thermometer. Therefore, it allows accurate temperature measurement. 6. Mercury is a good conductor of heat. 7. Mercury is relatively expensive B.The two liquids used in liquid in glass thermometers are mercury and alcohol. Below are some of the advantages associated with thermometric liquids. Advantages of mercury as a thermometric liquid. -It is a good conductor of heat and therefore the whole liquid reaches the temperature of the surroundings quickly. -It does not wet (cling to the sides of) the tube. -It has a high boiling point -It expands uniformly (linear expansion) and responds quickly to temperature changes, hence is sensitive. -It has a visible meniscus. Alcohol has a thermometric fluid -Alcohol expands uniformly. -It has a low freezing point (-115 degree centigrade) therefore it is very suitable for place where the temperature gets very low. -It has a large expansively -It is an easily available cheap liquid, which is safe to use C. The two liquids used in liquid in glass thermometers are mercury and alcohol. Below are some of the disadvantages associated with thermometric liquids. Disadvantages of mercury -Mercury is very poisonous. -its expansively is fairly low -it is expensive -It has a high freezing point therefore it cannot be used in places where the temperature gets very low. Disadvantages of alcohol -it wets the tube -it has a low boiling point (cannot be used in places with high temperatures) -it does not react quickly to changes in temperature -It needs to be dyed, since it's colourless. D.Example of real date about kinds of graph in module science: 1.The doctor is checking temperature body of a patient and he use thermometer for do that. 2.Sometimes each house to own a wall thermometer for measure temperature in the room
