Karl Heinrich Marx The Legend. The Story.

KARL MARX German Philosopher -Economist and journalist -Wrote the Communist Manifesto -Father of Communism

- Karl Marx was born in Trier 1818 in Prussia(Germany) to a wealthy middle class family. - Marx was born Jewish but his dad was forced to change their religion to protestantism to keep his job. - He studied at both the University of Bonn and the University of Berlin - October 1842 became a journalist in Cologne. But the newspaper was shut down by the Prussian Government for openly questioning the Prussian Government. KARL MARX'S EARLY LIFE

BIRTHPLACE OF KARL MARX

WHERE DID KARL MARX LEARNED HIS SOCIALIST IDEALS - - Marx joined a group called the Young Hegelian movement. The group was a Liberal group of theologians that were critical of religion and the Prussian dictatorship Karl Marx traveled to Paris where he tried to bring together the various French socialist group and the Hegelian. Which is where he met a like minded philosopher Friedrich Engels.Friedrich Engel Karl Marx began his first set of “Communist” writings called Economic & Philosophic Manuscripts Marx went to London and joined the Communist League of London. Where he and Friedrich Engels worked on their book The Communist manifesto.Friedrich Engel

COMMUNIST MANIFESTO Written by Marx and Engels -Published February Based on his time in London and his view of the industrialization there. - Capitalism was an essential part of societies evolution. But is no longer needed - Lays out the principles of “Marxism". -Chapter 1- Bourgeois and the Proletarians. -Chapter 2- Proletarians and the Communist. -Chapter 3- Communist Literature. -Caused rebellions throughout Europe in Denmark, Poland, Hungary and Milian

COMMUNISM \ MARXISM -Communism in relation to Marxism is described as a society with common ownership of land and wealth causing a society without classes. -The way a communist society is formed is from a capitalist society. -According to Marx all capitalist societies are split into two groups, proletariats and the bourgeoisie. -The proletarians are the working class. -The bourgeoisie are the upperclass controlling employment and politics. -The proletarians eventually take power from the bourgeoisie through a form of an uprising and from there the society will become a socialist country and from there they would become communist.

VIEWPOINTS OF LAW - Dictatorship is the only possible form of government for communism - Laws were meant “For holding the other subordinated classes obedient to the one class”and they should be followed by everyone. -Was strongly influenced by Charles Darwins theory of evolution. He believed that humans would evolve passed human nature to create perfect humans. -Rejected the idea of a god of creation. -Believed humans make all laws i.e. positive law.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF SOCIAL CONFLICT What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Social Conflict Theory? Social conflict theory sees social life as a competition, and focuses on the distribution of resources, power, and inequality. Weakness -The more money and power you have, the more you will get away with. Thus creating an very unequal society. Strength -As the “upper class” continues to decrease, the majority of society lives in a commonwealth environment.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF POLITICAL VIEWS Marx's view on a dictatorship being the only valid way of running a communist government: -Weaknesses: -For a government that is all about equality having one person decide what equality means may become only equal to some and not to all. -Dictatorships rarely work in the real world. -The leaders Bias may come in to play. -Strengths: -Decisions can be made quickly. - All Decisions are absolute.

CONTEMPORARY ISSUE Poverty in the world - Marx's Viewpoint This problem directly deals with Karl Marx’s view on Human Equality. His theory blatantly states that human equality will never fully be achieved unless the wealth of the powerful upper class is equally distributed throughout themselves and the rest of the classes dissolving classes all together. Therefore the wealthy countries should use their wealth and power to help the people of the world along with the people living in poverty in their own county, ultimately eliminating poverty altogether. Another possible way to fulfill human equality would be for the common people to overthrow the powerful individuals in society and divide the new found wealth and power among themselves (much like the people of Russia did). However, this view is more extreme and not likely to be used.

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE As Karl Marx was a large believer and revolutionary director of communism. Due to his beliefs we feel he was in support of civil disobedience He argued that it was up to the people to cast off the chains of Capitalism. Marx knew that in cases of corrupt government tendencies there was a need for civil disobedience in order to further push forward the idea of the proletariat. He thought in cases where the wealthy are favoured they would step in the way of the majority’s will. In this aspect of Marx’s ideas he take on a similar viewpoint as John Locke
