Background information This is an overview of fertilizer statistics in Uganda for the past four years Analysis are based on official trade data (official imports and official exports) In this overview, more emphasis is given to the year 2013 which is the immediate past year and each analysis is based on the products with higher quantities. Production At the moment, we don’t have any volumes of production

Imports Source: MAAIF NPK’s and Urea have been the most imported fertilizers over the years with both products accounting for 64.2% of all official fertilizers imported to Uganda in 2013. Total fertilizers imported to the country keeps increasing over the years. Other Fertilizers includes products like; Phosphate Rock, CAN, MAP, etc

Although fertilizer export quantities from Uganda are low, the highest export was in 2013 with a total of 617MT Other Fertilizers includes products like; UAN,PK compounds, MOP, etc

Fertilizer origins and destinations Source: MAAIF This graph shows the top 10 countries that Uganda imported fertilizers from for the year 2013 and the quantities (MT) that were imported. This graph shows the top 5 countries that fertilizers from Uganda were exported to and their quantities that were exported for the year 2013

Utilization Source: MAAIF This table shows the usage of products imported over the past four years. Products like Ammonium nitrate are imported and mostly used for industrial purpose. Other products like Urea can be used for both agricultural and industrial purpose depending on the importers.

Consumption [Apparent] Source: MAAIF At the moment, we are yet to get actual consumption of fertilizers in Uganda, therefore, all available consumption are apparent. In 2013, the total apparent consumption of fertilizers in Uganda was 50,889MT Comparing the total apparent consumption of fertilizers over the years shows that, apparent consumption of fertilizers keeps increasing. Apparent Consumption = Production + Imports – Exports – Non-Fertilizer Use
