Building Canada’s National Public Cord Blood Bank

The Campaign “For All Canadians” at Canadian Blood Services is raising funds to help build a National Public Cord Blood Bank. This new system will collect and store stem cells from umbilical cord blood donations and will better the chances for patients to find a donor match.

Diseases treated by stem cells A variety of diseases and disorders are treated with stem cell transplants including: o Specific forms of cancer including leukemias, lymphomas, myeloma o Bone marrow deficiency diseases caused by abnormal red blood cell production, such as thalassemia or sickle cell disease o Aplastic anemia which is the lack of normal blood cell production o Immune system disorders (immunodeficiencies) o Metabolic disorders

The face of Stem cell recipients………

Gabe… Gabe was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in A life-changing event not only for him, but also his family and community. Gabe’s condition is complicated by a genetic deformity that can cause a relapse at any time. If he does relapse, to survive he will need a stem cell transplant. The National Cord Bank will better Gabe’s chances of finding the perfect match.

“When Lilli was born, no one asked us if we would donate her umbilical cord blood to save someone’s life. I now encourage every person to donate. You could save someone’s life down the road.” - Tri Tran, Father of baby Lilli

Canada’s National Public Cord Blood Bank will save the lives of children just like Nate. We can be part of this amazing movement! This is Nate. o Nate was born in April 2010 and diagnosed with Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome o He found his stem cell match through the OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network. o Nate had his cord blood transplant on December 2, when he was just shy of eight months old.

Thank you! Join me in hosting a fundraiser, which will raise awareness and funds to help build the National Public Cord Blood Bank. Together we can be part of Canadian healthcare history For more information visit
