Using Graphic Novels to Encourage Reading

Graphic Novels for Students 5 – 12

Graphic novel versions of popular novels are good "hooks" for encouraging visual learners to read stories about characters they have met in movies or have heard their friends discuss.

Many books exist in graphic and traditional novel form, encouraging students to make the jump.

Reluctant readers who don’t take to graphic novels may prefer books with lots of white space, large print, stories about kids they can relate to and often humourous stories.

Some students never fall out of love with graphic novels. Higher fiction graphic novels) can be filled with great stories and amazing art. Many are suitable for mature students. (Some ARE graphic so beware)
