Centimeters continued. . . It takes about two and a half (2 ½) Centimeters to equal the same distance as one Inch. This penny is about 2 centimeters or ¾ of an inch
Practice #1 Try using the ruler to measure this box Click Here when ready to answer Try using the ruler to measure this box 9 CM 10 CM 8 CM
Great Job! You figured out centimeters You’ve unlocked the next section, move on and learn about millimeters!
Let’s try again Looks like your answer didn’t quite measure up, lets go back and try again.
What is a millimeter? A millimeter is even smaller than a centimeter One centimeter is made up of 10 millimeters!
When you measure in millimeters. . . Each line is one millimeter, so you can count those lines to get the total number of millimeters. Every big line shows the centimeters or 10 millimeters making it easier to count by tens for longer measurements. The side of a dime measures only a few millimeters!
Practice # 2 How many Millimeters long is this rectangle? Click here when you know your answer. 2 ½ mm 25 mm 23 mm
Let’s try again. . . Looks like your answer didn’t quite measure up, lets go back and try again.
Great Job! You figured out Millimeters! You’ve unlocked the next section, move on and Watch a short review video from 2-minute math on youtube!
How can I use this? Measuring is a great tool, you can make sure things fit together, when making a birdhouse or even making sure you have room for something new at home, measure where it should go then measure how long it is, if it is the same or shorter than the space it should fit together!
Quiz Time! if you need to go back and review go ahead! Are you ready to test out your measuring skills?
Question 1 How long is this pencil in millimeters? 7 ½ mm 8 mm 80 mm
Correct! Great job! You’re on a roll, keep it up
Lets try that again. . . Don’t forget there are 10 millimeters in every centimeter. Good luck!
Question 2 About how long is this arrow in centimeters? 10 cm 9 cm
Correct! Great job on those centimeters. For these next few questions don’t forget that there are 10 millimeters for every 1 centimeter!
Lets try that again. . . Be careful, Those measurements should come to an even centimeter
Question 3 What is the width of this rectangle in mm? 6.2 mm 6 mm
Correct! Great job! These last two will be a little different but you’ll do wonderful!
Lets try that again. . . Be careful here This one can be a little tricky. . .
Question 4 If this square is 5 cm long how long is it in mm? 5 mm
Correct! You’re doing great just one more Almost there!
Lets try that again. . . Keep in mind that there are 10 mm for every cm So cm x 10 = mm
Question 5 If this rectangle is 90 mm long how long is it in cm? 9 cm
Congratulations!!!!!! Great job! Picture credits Congratulations!!!!!! Great job! You’ve finished the measurement practice with a 100%!
Lets try that again. . . This is the opposite of question 4 So mm / 10 = cm
Objective At the end of this unit you will be able to Measure objects to the nearest centimeter and millimeter.
Standards MA.4.5.1 2000 Measure length to the nearest quarter-inch, eighth-inch and millimeter. MA.4.5.2 2000 Subtract units of length that may require renaming of feet to inches or meters to centimeters.
