What is AR?

a computer-based program that allows students to quiz on a variety of books. AR is…

AR also keeps track of: 1.The books students read 2.The average level of books being read by each child 3.The average percent scored by each child

In a Nutshell… Students… RRead a book Independently AAre read a book aloud RRead a book with others And Then… Take a quiz on that book

How does it help with my child’s reading achievement?

 It gives a child a chance to practice reading books on his/her reading level  It also quizzes him/ her on comprehension

How is my child’s reading level determined?

 STAR Reading Test  A computer-based test/tool used to determine a child’s reading ability (i.e. a book level that will be a comfortable beginning for a student)  Dibels  Teacher’s Observation

What are AR points and how can my child earn them?

 AR Points are awarded once a quiz has been completed successfully (80% or higher score).  AR points are tracked by the computer for each student. Points

Points  The number of points earned depends on the books being read.  The more difficult the book, the more points can be earned.  Points range from.5 to approx. 50.

Where can I find AR Books?

 Our Media Center  Local Public Libraries You can find our AR list on our school’s website by choosing the “Library” link and then clicking on “AR Quiz Lists”.

What are my child’s AR goals ?

 NEW end of the year point goal: Will be determined and posted on our website on the Library main page each year.  End of the year score goal. An average of 80% or higher for each student.

FAQ  Can AR quizzes be taken at home? No. They can be taken in class, MC, or any classroom in the building once a student has logged into the AR program.  Is every book an AR book? No. However, very soon majority of our books will have a test available.

FAQ How much are the quizzes & can I donate quizzes? How much are the quizzes & can I donate quizzes? $2.99 each. No. To help with purchasing AR quizzes please clip and submit Box Top$.

AR CODE OF CONDUCT  1. Students may only take tests on books they have read, they have read with someone, or someone read to them.  2. Students may not take a test on a book which has been made into a movie unless they have read the book.  3. Students may not take tests for other students.

AR CODE OF CONDUCT  4. students may not discuss AR questions or answers with other students.  5. Students may not take more than 2 quizzes per school day.  6. Students must not reveal their password to anyone other than a parent or teacher.
