Population The population of Ethiopia is approximately 82,825,000 Out of that population, 46,138,647 people are female.

Literacy definition: age 15 and over can read and write total population: 42.7% male: 50.3% female: 35.1% (2003 est.) School life expectancy (primary to tertiary education) total: 8 years male: 9 years female: 8 years (2008) Education expenditures5.5% of GDP (2007)

Income The average monthly income in each household is about 200 Ethiopia Birr - about $23 Ethiopia has the poorest human development indicators in the world with more than three- quarters of the population living on less than $1 per day.

Employment Rates Ethiopia's economy is based on agriculture, which accounts for more than 45% of GDP, 80% of exports, and 80% of total employment. The biggest sources of foreign trade are coffee, flowers and oilseeds. Yet, in spite of high rates of growth most Ethiopians live in poverty. Periodic droughts, soil degradation, high population density, high levels of taxation and poor infrastructure are main obstacles to sustainable growth.
