Agenda Review of Post-School Data Collection Definitions for Post-School Leavers Using the Transition Systemic Framework (TSF) Frequently Asked Questions Tips for increasing your contact rate

CCTS has conducted the Washington State Post- School survey for students with IEPs since 1999 In 2005, this data collection was federally mandated under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA, 2004) OSPI is required to report outcomes to OSEP (Office of Special Education Programs) as part of Indicator 14 Part B of our State Performance Plan (SPP) History of Post-School Data Collection

Who is a Leaver? Students between the ages of with IEPs who Graduate with a regular high school diploma Graduate based on the requirements of their IEP Receive confirmed receipt of a General Education Development Certificate (GED) Receive confirmed receipt of an Adult High School Diploma from a Community College Drop Out (includes youth whose status is unknown) Age out at age 21 with no diploma

Who Conducts the Survey? Can be anyone in the district –Director or Administrator –Teacher –School counselor/psychologist –SLP –Paraeducator –Administrative Assistant Preferably someone who KNOWS the student MUST understand student confidentiality and commit to preserving it

In 2009, Washington adopted OSEP’s measurable categories of postsecondary engagement 1.Higher Education 2.Competitively Employed 3.Other Education or Training 4.Other Employment Definitions for Post-School Leavers

Enrolled on a full- or part-time basis in a community college (2-year program), or college/university (4- or more year program) for at least one complete term, at any time in the year since leaving high school. 1. Higher Education

2. Competitive Employment Worked for pay at or above the minimum wage in a setting with others who are nondisabled for a period of 20 hours a week for at least 90 days at any time in the year since leaving high school (including military employment).

3. Other Postsecondary Education or Training Enrolled on a full- or part-time basis for at least one complete term at any time in the year since leaving high school in an education or training program (e.g., Job Corps, adult education, workforce development program, or vocational technical school which is less than a 2-year program).

4. Some Other Employment Worked for pay or been self-employed for a period of at least 90 days at any time in the year since leaving high school. This includes working in a family business such as: farm, store, fishing, ranching, catering services, etc.

Survey the leavers by following the online prompts while you conduct the phone call interview. The survey will calculate and sort your outcome data for you. The CCTS Online Post-School Survey

Timeline June 1, 2013 Enter Leavers’ Demographic data June 1-November 1, 2013 Using your district’s contact information, call each leaver until contact is made (minimum three attempts) November 1, 2013-June 1, 2014 Track and enter Leavers’ Demographic data by June 1, 2014

What to do if… I don’t have access to the system? I am having difficulty uploading my students’ demographic information? I need to leave the survey before I have completed all the questions? I don’t have access to all the schools I need to upload students for? I am having difficulty with the system itself (ex: it kicks you out after five minutes, etc.)

What to do if… The leaver/interviewee doesn’t a question? The leaver/interviewee doesn’t answer a question? The leaver/interviewee doesn’t know the answer to a question? The leaver/interviewee hangs up the phone? The leaver/interviewee doesn’t speak English? The leaver is in jail? The leaver is deceased?
