Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Green Partnership In 1990, their Canadian hotels pioneered the Green Partnership program It focused on improvements in waste management, and energy and water conservation at their properties, and innovative community outreach programs involving local groups and partnerships. Over 50 distinctive eco-friendly hotels and 23,000 hotel rooms around the globe Its Green Partnership Program that led to the development of Fairmont’s Sustainability Partnership Program

Fairmont Sustainability Partnership  The Fairmont Sustainability partnership comprises four key pillars that support our holistic approach to sustainability: Environment Responsible Business Ecosystems Engagement Responsibility

Kea Lani Initiatives Over 50 sustainability initiatives  High Five Redemption Program -Donates all HI-5 recyclables (bottles, cans, etc.) to a local non-profit organization, who then redeems the items for cash. - $11,000 for youth programs, non-profits, Youth & Education service -a group at St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School used the proceeds for educational trips abroad.  Sustainable cuisine -100% of fish entrees at Kō are from sustainable fisheries -90% of produce is sourced locally, from 16+ farmers  Spoke with Richard Texteira, Director of Fairmont Sustainability Program

Sustainability Initiatives  The Vivreau® Advanced Water System - reusable glass bottles used in resort - chills water on demand, which reduces refrigerated storage requirements.  Laundry water recycling system -filters detergents and reuse water. -recycles over 1 million gallons each month and over 81 million gallons have been recycled to date  The state-of-the-art eco-MODE Thermostat -automatically turns on when a guest checks in and automatically shuts off when a guest checks out.

 Rock Salt treating system for pools instead of chlorine  Clear plastic cups have been replaced with compostable cups made from 100% corn. utensils made from potatoes (most reaching the majority of decomposition within 60 days. ) Eco-Shopping program to promote biodegradable and more… All food scraps donated pig farmers Low flow showerheads and toilets Over 200 gallons of cooking oil per week recycled into bio fuel Guest recycling program Employee volunteer projects: coastal/reef clean-up, highway clean-ups, service projects to protect Hawaii’s native forests Kea Lani Initiatives cont.

Our Questions  How much water/energy is consumed in a year  How much is saved  Does the Hotel use sustainable furnishings  We were informed by a manager that biodiesel is not used for the hotel because the machinery is too expensive. –Are there plans to use it in the future  Are there incentives in place to inspire guests to be ecofriendly
