Using Articulate Presenter Tips for Good Practice

PowerPoint Presentation Articulate Presenter Audio Voiceover Articulate Quizmaker Articulate Engage

Structure Your PowerPoint Try and create a consistent template for how you like to present: Title, and Author Learning Objectives Introduction Main Teaching Content Summary References

Make sure content is clear... Feel free to experiment – but be consistent Imagine you are looking at the content without any prior knowledge – is it clear? Is all information present? – Textual Information – Descriptive Images Content is broken up into manageable pieces.

Interactions When including an interaction into Presenter you should think about: Does the interaction work better as a ‘stand-alone’ resource? Does the interaction add value to the presentation? How will the student use the interaction? – Can they skip the content to the next page – How many attempts can they take on a question – Is there a pass mark for the quiz

Interaction Tips Allow users to skip the interactions – It makes it less frustrating when revising Offer user 1 or 2 attempts at a question – Allows a user to learn from mistake – Make sure it is clear that there is 1 more attempt available – Always provide clear feedback so someone can learn from their mistakes Provide feedback for each question – Clear feedback based on the question – Provide universal feedback to justify the answer of each question Create a Template to remember your preferred settings

Adjusting your settings

Audio Why? – A way to put the lecturer inside the e-learning resource – Can be a compliment to the written content How? – Using a Microphone – Using the ‘Record Narration’ tool in Presenter

Audio Tips A good voiceover can be very close to recreating the lecture experience WARNING: A bad voiceover can detract from the experience and be a barrier to learning Only use if it will add something to the resource! Take your time – Set aside more time than it would take to give the lecture normally – Find a style that’s comfortable for you – The first time is tricky, don’t worry! Find a quiet room Turn off your phone (and any other distractions) Add value to the slide – Don’t just read the content on display Have a glass of water to hand Use a script if easier Speak Clearly (use your phone voice) Don’t worry if you pause, or stutter – It will sound natural to the student Test the microphone before you start – If it sounds bad, you wont be able change it afterwards

Sound Check Microphone should be close to your lips but not touching Check the Volume on your computer (and on microphone) Check computer is plugged in at mains (not just battery) Turn off your phone! Record a practice slide – Speak at your normal volume Listen to it back – Look out for background noise – Can you hear your voice clearly If you are having trouble contact your ICT Support
