Author’s info J.D. Salinger was born in January 1 st, 1919 He grew up in the fashionable apartment district of Manhattan N.Y. He studied at Ursinus College and New York University. During World War 2 he was drafted into infantry He served the army signal corps from 1942 to 1946

Title Information The title symbolizes what Holden wants to do. He wants to protect the innocent children from dangers, because he wasn’t there to protect his brother.

Theme The theme of Catcher in the Rye is that Holden is coming out of his age and finding himself, He is discovering what his life is really about.

Song that Describes the Character

Favorite Scene Lanette Holden: “I’m not going away anywhere. I changed my mind. So stop crying and shut up.” This is my favorite scene because this is where he realized he needed to except the past and stop running. Mostly because he was hurting his sister. Pg. 207

Holden’s Dog Poop There were many things that could be considered as holden’s dog poop, but the problem that most affected him and that he tries to hide is the pain with all the intoxocating liquor that he drinks hoping it will go away, but it doesn’t. “Allie don’t let me disappear. Please Allie.” Pg. 198

Summary of the book In the book “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D Salinger, the main character struggles with getting kicked out of school and living on the streets of New York for a few days. During these few days the main character goes through many signs of grief due to his brothers death. He tries to hide the grief drinking to try to forget but it wont go away. He also tries to run away from his problems but ends up going back home to his little sister.

Statement of Value Ruben *I learned that if you grieve over something, try to forget the past because if your miserable, the people around you are miserable. Lanette * I learned that even if bad things happen in life you shouldn’t give up. Running away solves nothing. But you make mistakes to learn. Phoebe had to cry and beg for him to take her with him for him to realize he needed to grow up.
