Rio De Janeiro is the capital city of the State of Rio De Janeiro, the second largest city of Brazil, 6 th largest in America, and 26 th in the world. It was capital city of Brazil for two centuries, from 1763 to 1815, and form 1815 to 1821 it was the capital city of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarve.  Rio De Janeiro’s biggest attraction is the carnival, that is held before summer every year. It is a street carnival, and it involves samba dancers, bird shows, fireworks, the Rio Carnival Parade, etc.

 Another thing tourists can see in Rio is the famous Statue of Christ (Christ the Redeemer). It is the 5 th largest statue of Christ in the world, with its 30.1 meters. Statue’s weight is 635 tones.  It is, also well-known as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

OLYMPIC GAMES The 2016 Summer Olympics and the Paralympics will take place in Rio de Janeiro, which will mark the first time a South American or a Portuguese-speaking nation hosts the event. It will be the third time the Olympics will be held in a Southern Hemisphere city, and it will mean Australia will no longer be the only Southern Hemisphere country to have hosted the Olympics.
