 Proverbs deals with wisdom in every area of a person’s life.  Self-control refers to ‘wise decisions’, especially compared to ‘rash decisions’ made by those who neglect the principles in Proverbs.

 Prov Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control NLT A person without self-control is as defenseless as a city with broken-down walls.

 Prov A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue.  Prov NLT There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking.

 Prov A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered. Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.

 Prov 20.4 A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing.  Prov Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare.

 Prov 20.1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.  Prov Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
