Making the most of your time abroad

PLAN AHEAD!  Consider your options, keeping in mind the skills you want to gain – where will you go next?  Research the country  Seek advice from other people who have worked/studied in that country  Find out about the industry/university  Budget sensibly – remember to consider medical expenses, insurance, VISA fees  Contact your doctor in advance

Possible Obstacles  Visas and work permits UK nationals do not need a work permit to work in any of the EU member states. Most other European countries and other countries through the world require you to have a work and residence permit.  Is there an immigration quota ? Check out the local embassies and consulates in advance  Are there health concerns ? Check with your GP in advance and make sure you get an immunisation booklet if you need one.  Funding – be realistic about what you can afford (travel, living expenses etc.)
